Supplications from the Sunnah — a treasury of remembrance

Morning
أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَ الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ

Aṣbaḥnā wa-aṣbaḥa l-mulku lillāh, wal-ḥamdu lillāh, lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah.

"We have entered the morning, and the whole kingdom of Allah has entered the morning. Praise be to Allah. There is no god but Allah, alone, with no partner."

Evening
اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ أَمْسَيْنَا وَبِكَ أَصْبَحْنَا وَبِكَ نَحْيَا وَبِكَ نَمُوتُ وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ

Allāhumma bika amsaynā wa-bika aṣbaḥnā, wa-bika naḥyā wa-bika namūtu wa-ilayka l-maṣīr.

"O Allah, by You we enter the evening, and by You we enter the morning. By You we live and by You we die, and to You is the final return."

Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3391
Protection
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ

Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika mina l-hammi wal-ḥazani, wal-ʿajzi wal-kasali, wal-bukhli wal-jubni, wa-ḍalaʿi l-dayni wa-ghalabati l-rijāl.

"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and grief, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, and from being overcome by debt and overpowered by men."

Steadfastness of Heart
يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ

Yā Muqalliba l-qulūb, thabbit qalbī ʿalā dīnik.

"O Turner of hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion."

Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2140
Guidance & Righteousness
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

Allāhumma innī asʾaluka l-hudā wa-t-tuqā wa-l-ʿafāfa wa-l-ghinā.

"O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency."

Entering Home
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ الْمَوْلِجِ وَخَيْرَ الْمَخْرَجِ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَلَجْنَا وَبِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا وَعَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا

Allāhumma innī asʾaluka khayra l-mawliji wa-khayra l-makhraji, bismillāhi walajna, wa-bismillāhi kharajnā, wa-ʿalā Allāhi Rabbinā tawakkalnā.

"O Allah, I ask You for the best entry and the best exit. In the name of Allah we enter, in the name of Allah we leave, and upon Allah, our Lord, we rely."

Sunan Abi Dawud 5096
Before Eating
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَأَطْعِمْنَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُ

Allāhumma bārik lanā fīhi wa-aṭʿimnā khayran minh.

"O Allah, bless it for us and provide us with better than it."

Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3455
Complete Reliance
حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ

Ḥasbiya Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwa, ʿalayhi tawakkaltu, wa-huwa Rabbu l-ʿarshi l-ʿaẓīm.

"Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god but Him. Upon Him I rely, and He is the Lord of the great Throne."

Sunan Abi Dawud 5081 — Recite 7 times, morning & evening
Seeking Forgiveness
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الْغَفُورُ

Rabb-ighfir lī wa-tub ʿalayya, innaka anta t-Tawwābu l-Ghafūr.

"My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance. Indeed You are the Ever-Relenting, the All-Forgiving."

Sunan Ibn Majah 3814 — Recited 100 times per sitting
When in Distress
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الْأَرْضِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ

Lā ilāha illallāhu l-ʿAẓīmu l-Ḥalīm, lā ilāha illallāhu Rabbu l-ʿarshi l-ʿaẓīm, lā ilāha illallāhu Rabbu s-samāwāti wa-Rabbu l-arḍi wa-Rabbu l-ʿarshi l-karīm.

"There is no god but Allah, the All-Mighty, the Forbearing. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the Magnificent Throne. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth, and Lord of the Noble Throne."

Sahih al-Bukhari 6346
Knowledge & Wisdom
رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

Rabbi zidnī ʿilmā.

"My Lord, increase me in knowledge."

Quran 20:114 — Recited by the Prophet ﷺ
Sleep
بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا

Bismika Allāhumma amūtu wa-aḥyā.

"In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live."

Sahih al-Bukhari 6324 — Upon going to sleep
